Thing 1 Habits

Thing 1: Easy/Hard Challenges

I can relate to all these 7 1/2 habits portrayed by lifelong learners! There were many habits associated with lifelong learning that I find quite easy. If I had to pick one, I believe that beginning with the end in mind is the easiest habit for me.  I am constantly making goals for myself, and holding myself accountable to reach those goals. I find that setting expectations and standards helps me accomplish more. I hope to teach my students how to set goals, and that follow through to reach those goals is important. The habit that I find the hardest is play because I am a serious person and I like to be in control. I can enhance learning through play in the classroom with designed structured activities to relate to real world experiences. Children learn best through play because they can use their imagination and problem solve hands on. All these habits support each other in some way and if a habit is your weakness you can apply it as a strength.  All these habits can be easy and hard depending on how you apply your teaching skills to overcome the challenges.

  1. First LOVE the picture, I also agree with what you said about teaching our students how to “how to set goals, and that follow through to reach those goals is important.” Not only do I plan to do this in my classroom I am constantly working on this with my own son.

  2. Allowing your kids to set goals and explaining to them the importance of them and keeping them as a priority. This would give them a chance to feel important and in control of what they would like to do in life.Cool Picture.

  3. Candice, I too find it hard to "play" at times because I tend to be too serious at times. I am just so focused on school right now and on being a parent that it gets hard to relax. You are right when you say that children learn best through hands on experiences while using their imaginations. I totally agree with that. I also like your picture... its very fitting and suitable to Thing 1 :)
